Longitude

Longitude is a geographic coordinate that specifies the east–west position of a point on the Earth’s surface, measured in degrees from the Prime Meridian. It is contrasted with latitude, which measures north–south position. In science and navigation, longitude lines form a global grid used to locate places precisely. The term encompasses mathematical and cartographic contexts as well as daily geographic references.
