Enamel is a hard, glossy substance that covers the outside of teeth and certain minerals or objects to provide protection and a smooth surface. In dentistry, it is the outer covering of the tooth, formed from mineralized tissue produced during tooth development. Outside dentistry, enamel refers to a vitreous coating used on metal or ceramics to create a glass-like finish and color.
