A natural light display in Earth's sky, typically seen in high-latitude regions, produced by charged solar particles interacting with the atmosphere. The term combines two Latin-origin words: Aurora (dawn) and Borealis (northern). It is most commonly referred to as the aurora borealis. The phenomenon is also known as the northern lights.
