Aldosterone is a mineralocorticoid steroid hormone produced by the adrenal cortex that regulates sodium and potassium balance and, consequently, blood pressure and fluid balance. It acts on the kidneys to promote sodium reabsorption and potassium excretion, with effects on extracellular fluid volume.
